Municipality Interest Request

The principals of O2 Group Ventures have developed multiple solar projects with municipalities. Below are some of those projects. Each project had different challenges from which O2 can provide insight and consulting services for Municipalities that want to increase the amount of solar and energy storage to reduce the cost of energy, reliance on fossil fuels, and carbon emissions from their electrical grid for their citizens.

The Bedford Solar Farm in Bedford V.A. was a partnership with the Town of Bedford on land that was impacted by a nearby landfill. The solar facility generates electricity that lowers the municipality’s demand and thereby cost during critical periods.
The Edenton Solar Farm located in a unique area where Dominion power lines (which are considered to be in the PJM Balancing Authority) physically serve the Municipality, yet, Duke claims the Municipality in its Balancing Authority (despite having no physical infrastructure). The project involved years of planning, and it took working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the North Carolina State Utility Commission, as well as state and federal regulatory attorneys to complete. This project, while difficult and frustrating, provided a deep study into what is possible and not possible for municipal utilities that have all requirements contracts with their membership organizations/investor owned utilities.
The Mayberry Solar Farm was a partnership with the Town of Mount Airy where the Town leased land beside it waste water treatment facility to the project, and the project sold its output to Duke Energy.
